The Broken Lake The Pace Series Book 2 Shelena Shorts Books
First thoughts:OMG! I didn't know that I could like this even more than the first. This book seriously had me on the edge of my seat. The best part about this book is the ever growing characters, each one keeps suprising me more and more. Such a beautiful and captivating story, and definately emotional. Because in the end everything turns upside down and a much more dangerous and winding path opens before them.
Summary:
After being rescued by Wes from Andy's death grasp they grow even closer together. They desperately cling to each other and vow to never part. And Sophie's impending death is a very stressful matter to them, Wes is protecting her even more but when Sophie has enough she makes him promise that the two of them from that moment on would carve a new future for them, one that outsmarts fate.
But soon on the clouds roll in, a mysterious guy named Chase comes into the mix, threating thier balance and when they take a trip to Virginia with Dawn, Jackson, Rich, and Kerry things turn from amazing to wierd and frightening.
In the end Sophie has to make a descision on whats to happen next because in all truth, nothings going to be the same after what she does next.

The Broken Lake The Pace Series Book 2 Shelena Shorts Books Reviews
The storyline, and idea of "The Pace" is brilliant. I love how Shelena Shorts mixed science into this love story. It was very refreshing, and unique. As I loved the first, and have read it more than once, I was a little disappointed by the follow-up "Broken Lake". At times Sophie became a little obsessive, and irrational. Her jealousy, and her insecurity was a little over the top given the circumstances. I felt her sense of strength and character was pulled off really well in the first book, but the second it wasn't as clear. The romance, then in turn the conflict between Wes and Sophie at times felt forced, and unrealistic. My hope is that the author is setting you up for the third installment, because I honestly like this series and the first was so promising. In a world full of infallible male roles in YA lately, I love the interesting and vulnerable character the author has created.
The romance in The Broken Lake really made me lose my breath. I am really jealous of Sophie and want to steal him away all for my own. Shelena has a wonderful thing going with this series, and has a talent at writing romantic scenes. The simplicity but beauty of their interactions are wonderful. Both Wes and Sophie have their own personalities and they are able to join together to make a strong and interesting couple.
While there is not quite as much action, there is plenty of character building, romance developing, and sub-plots coming together. There is a new character introduced and we finally get to meet Kerry as well. I am a big fan of Sophie's friends. Dawn and Kerry are not perfect but they are well written and they are their own people. They have their purposes and I love to see their interactions.
The Broken Lake left a smile on my face almost the whole time reading it, and a sense of longing, giddiness at a few hot scenes as well as a few sweet ones. I must say though this does end on a cliff hanger (again) and I am dying to get my hands on Iron Quill.
I was bit concerned about The Broken Lake, I didn't have the slightest idea of what to expect and I was a little worried it may not be as good as The Pace but however Shelena proves me that sequels often turns to be good and even better than their predecessors.
After Sophie brush with death she have to resume her life once again, with an overprotective mom and a very different Weston but this different is good he doesn't want to take her time with Sophie for granted and be with her as much as she can but attention has been drawn to Weston and his company after Sophie's aftermath and now Wes secret is in danger to be revealed and his life may be in danger.
I thought before writing this review how I would describe Wes and Sophie's relationship in this book and they only thing that came into my mind was corny but don't get me wrong is not a bad corny, a good corny, the kind of corny that you read and you don't want stop reading it and the corny that every girl wants in her life. I couldn't help to fall in love with their relationship even though they were attached to the hip in this book and Shelena found the way to write those scenes as something natural, as they were both meant to be this close and they were sharing each and every minute together. Did I find it obsessive? Not at all.... I find it very romantic.
I loved Weston in this book, he was surer of himself, more loving, more caring and sexier and I loved that he was willing to put everything in the line for Sophie even if that means putting his life on the line
The only thing that I find lacking was the antagonists of the story, we are still in the dark about whom or what they want and though I was happy that this was Sophie & Weston book I would have a little more about them and their motivation behind their scheming to get their hands on Weston.
So I wish I could say more about the book the plot because it would ruin the whole experience but if you liked the Pace I can assure that you are going to LOVE The Broken Lake I think 2010 is my year of reading awesome books and I can't wait to get my hands on The Iron Quill.
